Iran Boeing 737 shakes violently after suspected tyre burst, belongings fly across cabin

Passengers reportedly cried, prayed and clung to their seats as the aircraft shook violently, with overhead bins opening and belongings falling into the cabin

A Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 operating from Mashhad to Kermanshah was forced to turn back shortly after take-off after a reported landing-gear tyre burst caused severe vibrations, causing panic among passengers.

The incident took place soon after the aircraft departed Mashhad Airport. Initial reports said a tyre from the main landing gear detached during the flight, after which the aircraft experienced intense shaking and what was described as an engine-related malfunction.

Videos shared on social media appeared to show the aircraft cabin shaking violently, with overhead bins opening and belongings falling into the aisle and onto passenger seats.

Passengers were reportedly frightened by the sudden vibrations, with some screaming, crying and reciting prayers as the crew worked to manage the emergency.

The aircraft's crew decided to return to Mashhad Airport, where emergency services were placed on standby.

Firefighters, medical teams and other emergency personnel were deployed at the airport ahead of the aircraft's return. The Boeing 737 subsequently landed safely.

Preliminary reports said there were no major injuries among the passengers or crew despite the frightening experience inside the cabin.

Aviation authorities are investigating the incident to establish how the landing-gear tyre became detached and whether it was connected to the reported engine malfunction and severe vibrations.
