Who owns the news you read?
Snashd is a Tamil-language news transparency layer. It shows who owns each outlet, which outlet originated a story, and which stayed silent — every ownership claim traced to a public source. This page is the method; the feed is the product.
No AI in the judgement layer
Ownership information comes from a hand-built, published, git-versioned table. No sentiment analysis, no bias scores, no AI-classified content. If a claim is wrong, you can read exactly which source it came from — and when.
Claims carry evidence classes
Every ownership claim is labelled Filed, Public record, Observed, Reported, or Unclassified — and the five are never rendered identically. A claim with no evidence stays Unclassified, visibly. Until primary filings are verified, the current records are unverified scaffolding, and the product says so.
Blindspot is baseline-normalised
A “blindspot” is a deviation from an outlet’s own coverage rate, never raw absence. Until the sample supports it, Snashd publishes nothing — you will see “insufficient data”, not a number. This is deliberate and permanent at small sample sizes.
Syndication is corrected first
Wire-syndicated coverage is flagged before any coverage claim is made, so an outlet isn’t credited — or blamed — for a story it republished. The flag is shown as a flag, never asserted as a verdict.
Framing before scoring
When several outlets cover the same story, you see their headlines side by side, verbatim, unscored. You do the reading. Headline edits made while Snashd watches are retained as diffs.
No article bodies, ever
Snashd stores headline, dek and canonical URL, and links out. It never stores or republishes article text. What is stored, and for how long, is on the data page.
Prototype status
The current build is a local research prototype ingesting live RSS headlines from Tamil and English outlets. Coverage and blindspot stay unpublished until the sample supports baseline-normalised claims. Ownership records are unverified scaffolding pending primary-source verification.
