Athletics once again has the highest representation among Indian athletes chosen for the continental event, with 74 participants named for the Asian Games 2026 at Aichi-Nagoya
India, after its 107-medal haul in Hangzhou, is sending a strong contingent to the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with hopes of breaking its all-time medal record once again.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports released the list of 503 athletes for the Aichi-Nagoya Games, which includes established Olympic and Asian Games medallists alongside several young athletes making their debut at the continental multi-sport event.
The 2026 contingent features athletes across 35 sports, including cricket, athletics, shooting, badminton, boxing, hockey, kabaddi, wrestling, weightlifting, archery, rowing, swimming and esports. India will also field teams in several sports in which it has traditionally been a major medal contender.
Key points from India's Asian Games 2026 contingent
India's performance at the last Asian Games in 2023: Hangzhou, China
At the last Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023, India produced its best-ever performance at the continental event, winning 28 gold medals, 38 silver medals and 41 bronze medals for a total of 107 medals. India finished fourth on the overall medal table, behind China, Japan and South Korea.
The 2026 edition in Aichi-Nagoya will give India another opportunity to build on that performance, with several members of the 2023 contingent returning for another Asian Games campaign.
