PM Narendra Modi's Sporting Push: Khelo India, TOPS And The Olympic Dream

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 76th birthday, here's a look at how during his tenure, India' sporting landscape has transformed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is celebrating his 76th birthday today. His tenure as Indian PM, which began in 2014, has brought about a transformational change in the country’s sporting landscape. His push to turn India into a global sporting hub and powerhouse continues through various policy changes and unique initiatives.
The story of his close association with sport, though, began years before taking oath as the PM. From the Khel Mahakumbh in Gujarat (2010) to the Centre’s Khelo India programme, Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), Fit India movement, and the push to bring the Olympics to India, under his reign, sports has steadily moved into a larger policy and public-life space.
