IPS officer Bushra Bano’s sudden transfer sparks row over faith-linked video

Opposition alleges bias as Muslim officer is transferred a day after greetings video fuels right‑wing ire; govt insists reshuffle routine, not linked to clip
The transfer of West Bengal IPS officer Bushra Bano, barely two and a half months after her Kharagpur posting, has triggered controversy as it came a day after a video featuring her Islamic greetings drew Hindu right-wing criticism.
Bano, a 2021-batch IPS officer, was transferred on September 14 as Deputy Commandant of the State Armed Police’s 4th Battalion as part of a “minor police reshuffle.”
She was replaced as Kharagpur Additional SP by Partha Ghosh, who was earlier Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Chandannagar Police Commissionerate.
