Nurse critical after husband rides 400 km to attack her in Bengaluru hospital
The accused allegedly attacked his estranged wife with sharp weapons and a liquid suspected to be acid at the hospital's parking lot.
A nurse was critically injured after her estranged husband allegedly attacked her with sharp weapons and threw a liquid suspected to be acid at her in the basement parking area of a Bengaluru hospital Thursday morning.
Madhumitha, a native of West Bengal, works as a nurse at Narayana Hospital in JP Nagar. She was admitted to the same hospital following the attack.
K Vamsi Krishna, Deputy Commissioner of Police, said the incident took place between 9 am and 9.15 am. The police said Madhumitha and the accused, Venkatesh, a native of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, married in 2024. The couple had been living separately for about a year following marital and family disputes.
“Preliminary information suggests that the accused travelled from Madurai to Bengaluru (distance of over 400 km) on a motorcycle on Wednesday. On Thursday morning, he confronted Madhumitha in the hospital basement and attacked her with two sharp weapons. He also allegedly threw a liquid suspected to be acid at her,” the DCP said.
According to police, Venkatesh, who works for an oil and gas company in Chennai, allegedly attacked Madhumitha before members of the public. An on-duty traffic sub-inspector and his staff intervened and restrained him.
The police have taken Venkatesh into custody and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
A police team inspected the spot and collected samples of the liquid. They sent it for forensic examination to determine its exact composition and whether it is an acid or a cleaning chemical.
