Himanta wishes Modi on birthday, says PM steered India with ‘unwavering resolve’

Guwahati, Sep 17 (PTI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday offered birthday greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said the PM has “steered the nation forward with unwavering resolve”.

Born on September 17, 1950, in Gujarat’s Vadnagar, Modi turned 76 on Thursday.

“Heartfelt birthday greetings and best wishes to the illustrious Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, who, with his resolve for service, good governance, and nation-building, is taking India to new heights,” Sarma said in a series of posts on X.

From a young age, Modi has devoted himself to public service in various capacities, he added.

“For the past 25 years – first as Head of Government in Gujarat and subsequently of Bharat – he has steered the nation forward with unwavering resolve,” the CM said.

Welfare, social justice, rapid infrastructure development and an uncompromising commitment to national security have been the hallmarks of the PM’s long public life, Sarma said.

“Since 2014, he has placed unprecedented emphasis on Assam’s development, firmly establishing it as an engine of growth for the region. From Vikas to Virasat, he has prioritised our state’s overall welfare and continues to guide us as we script new chapters of development,” the chief minister said.

“On this special day, I pray to Maa Kamakhya and Srimanta Sankardev to bless him with good health and many more years in the service of Maa Bharti,” he added.

Later, talking to reporters on the sidelines of an official function here, Sarma said that in the evening, lakhs of people across Assam will light an ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya’, which is an earthen lamp, to mark PM Modi’s birthday.

“I urge everyone to join us as we come together to pray for his long, healthy and prosperous life so that he continues to serve the nation for a prolonged period,” he added.

Sarma further said that since 2014, the PM has given Assam a renewed place in India’s growth story, seeing in the state not just potential, but a gateway to the Northeast and beyond.

“From the Bogibeel Bridge to Moran’s Emergency Landing Facility, Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu and the expansion of Guwahati airport, Assam’s distances are steadily becoming shorter,” he added.

Modi has also carried Assam’s cultural identity beyond the state’s borders, embracing the (traditional towel) Gamosa, Bihu (festival), the Moidams and the rich traditions, the CM said.

Moidams are the sacred mound-burial system of the Tai-Ahom dynasty, located in the foothills of the Patkai Ranges in eastern Assam.

“He doesn’t just speak of our heritage. He wears it, celebrates it and takes it to the world. Modi ji’s vision for Assam has always placed its people at the centre, with a prime focus on our farmers, tea garden communities, tribal groups, women and youth, opening new avenues of opportunity across the state,” he added.
