Writer’s Corner | Sahitya Akademi awardee Rosy D’souza on translating into Kannada
Although she has done extraordinary work in the field of Kannada translation, Rosy D'souza's native language is not Kannada.
Among writers and translators in Karnataka, there are some who keep a low profile and stay out of the public eye. One of them is Rosy D’Souza, a Karnataka Sahitya Akademi awardee known for her work translating Furrows in a Field, the biography of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, into Kannada.
She rather humbly puts it: “I am not an academic. I just do it out of my passion and love for reading. When I do a translation, it is because I love that work.”
D’Souza’s relationship with Kannada did not begin in Bengaluru; she hails from coastal Karnataka.
