SC seeks response of Maharashtra, others on plea to fell trees for project in Mumbai's Film City
New Delhi, Describing the project as one of "eminent national importance", the Supreme Court sought the responses of the Maharashtra government and others on Wednesday on a plea seeking permission to fell and transplant trees for the construction of a proposed institute of creative technology at Mumbai's Film City.
A bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana was told by senior advocate Dhruv Mehta that all statutory permissions and the environmental clearance for the proposed construction have been obtained by the project proponent.
The senior lawyer also said the project does not fall under the Aarey forest and is inside the Film City.
