Supreme Court seeks response of Maharashtra, others on plea to fell trees for project in Mumbai's Film City
The Supreme Court has asked Maharashtra and others to respond within two weeks to a plea seeking permission to fell 124 trees for a national institute in Mumbai’s Film City. The project, deemed of national importance, has all statutory clearances but follows a January 2025 order restricting tree felling in Aarey.

A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana was told by senior advocate Dhruv Mehta that all statutory permissions and the environmental clearance for the proposed construction have been obtained by the project proponent.
