'Not Created To Espouse Cause': Supreme Court Refuses To Reconstitute Panel Probing CJP Protest Violence

The court noted that the committee had only recently begun its proceedings and, therefore, found no grounds at this stage to seek its reconstitution.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain a plea seeking reconstitution of the High-Powered Enquiry Committee (HPEC) set up to investigate the violence that erupted during the July student protests by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

The court noted that the committee had only recently begun its proceedings and, therefore, found no grounds at this stage to seek its reconstitution. The SC bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana said the objections raised against the panel were based on conjecture and premature at this stage.
