25 lakh diyas light up Kshipra ghats in Ujjain to mark PM’s birthday; Nabin joins celebrations
Ujjain (MP), Sep 17 (PTI) The banks of the sacred Kshipra river in Ujjain glowed with the light of more than 25 lakh diyas (earthen lamps) on Thursday, marking a mega celebration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday.
To celebrate the occasion, BJP president Nitin Nabin and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav lit lamps and released them in the holy river at Ramghat.
Nabin, on his first visit to Madhya Pradesh after taking over as BJP president in January, and Yadav also took blessings of saints and sages by garlanding them in the city of Baba Mahakal (Lord Shiva), party sources said.
They took part in the “Aashirwad Ka Diya” lighting ceremony organised at Ujjain’s Ramghat under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, a month-long nationwide campaign (September 17-October 17) launched by the BJP to mark Modi’s birthday and celebrate his upcoming completion of 25 years in public service, they said.
At the programme, more than 25 lakh diyas were simultaneously illuminated along the riverfront to mark the PM’s birthday which was celebrated as a festival of service to the nation, resolution and dedication, according to officials. PTI MAS RSY
