Sabyasachi Takes Calcutta To New York Fashion Week With Bengal Byzantine Broadway

From Calcutta's craftsmen to a Met Museum jewellery collaboration, Sabyasachi's latest collection argues that culture has always travelled

On 15th September, Sabyasachi went to New York Fashion Week and brought Calcutta with him. Again. Except this time, the city showed up in a slightly new avatar.

The collection, called Bengal Byzantine Broadway, offers a glimpse into the melange of cultures that were showcased. Three cities, three histories were stitched into one wardrobe. According to the brand, the show was created by “Drawing on the cultural multitudes of Byzantium, the modernity of New York and the artistry of Calcutta" and presenting them through an Indian lens. Cities become great when they gather the world, and this collection is built on that idea.
