Odisha govt disbursed over Rs 25,800 crore under Subhadra scheme in 2 years: Deputy CM Parida

Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 (PTI) The Odisha government has transferred Rs 25,800 crore into the bank accounts of more than 1.03 crore women beneficiaries under the Subhadra scheme in five instalments, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida said on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the women-centric scheme on his birthday on September 17, 2024.

Women aged between 21 and 60 years are eligible for the scheme, which provides financial assistance of Rs 50,000 over five years from 2024-25 to 2028-29 to help them become financially independent and self-reliant.

Each beneficiary receives Rs 10,000 annually in two instalments of Rs 5,000 each – one on International Women’s Day on March 8 and the other on Raksha Bandhan.

Addressing a press conference here, Parida appealed to the people of the state to light lamps in every household on Thursday between 6 pm and 7 pm to mark the successful completion of two years of the state government’s Subhadra scheme.

Highlighting the scheme’s progress and achievements, she said assessments by IIM Sambalpur, SBI and NITI Aayog showed that more than 26 per cent of women in the state had become self-reliant through entrepreneurship as a result of the scheme.

“So, this September 17 should be observed as a day dedicated to women’s empowerment and self-respect,” she stated.

On the occasion, Rangoli competitions and special celebrations will be organised at anganwadi centres and child development project offices across the state.

She further stated that the Department of Women & Child Development is committed to achieving a 100 per cent malnutrition-free Odisha through Poshan Abhiyan and building a ‘Nourished and Developed Odisha’. PTI BBM BBM MNB
