Stocks to watch today: The Indian stock market was set for a quiet start on Wednesday ahead of the US Federal Reserve's policy outcome later tonight. The sentiment across Asian markets remained cautious.
Market participants are widely expecting the US Fed to hike rates for the first time since 2023. A rise in oil prices along with bets on rate hike pushed US bond yields past the 5 per cent mark, its highest level in two decades.
As of 7.47 AM, GIFT Nifty was trading 0.09 points or 21.50 points higher at 23,224. Among Asian peers, Japan's Nikkei was lower by 0.29 per cent while South Korea's Kospi was up 0.24 per cent. Australia's ASX 200 gained 0.15 per cent.
Overnight, US stocks ended in the red. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.63 per cent, the S&P 500 lost 0.45 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite slumped 0.78 per cent.
In commodities market, oil prices pulled back amid unexpected build up in US crude inventories. Brent crude futures fell 0.86 per cent, to $107.82 while WTI futures were down 0.92 per cent at $104.86.
