Hyderabad:Demanding the protection of Jamia Nizamia and Waqf land in Raidurg , the Waqf Protection and Waqf Bachao Tehreek joint action committee (JAC) staged a protest at Dharna Chowk here on Sunday. JAC president Abdul Wahab said a dispute regarding approximately 510.35 acres of Jamia Nizamia Waqf land had been going on for long.

Out of the total disputed land, around 10.63 acres were subjected to an auction process by TGIIC, valued at approximately Rs 2,889 crore, he said, adding that the government must take necessary steps to ensure that these financial benefits were exclusively directed to Jamia Nizamia. Protesters demanded the government conduct a comprehensive survey of the remaining Waqf land in the Raidurg area, execute proper demarcation, and construct a permanent boundary wall.

Waqf activist Md Habeebuddin said previous governments had handed over large and valuable Waqf land to APIIC/TGIIC which had sold them for lakhs of crores of rupees. So far, no compensation or alternative land had been given to the Waqf Board.

He alleged in Aloor, the government had acquired 1,264 acres of Waqf land, for which it had decided to give only 5 per cent compensation as per market value. “This is not appropriate,” Habeebuddin said.

Protesters urged the government to implement GO Ms 3, constituting district-wise Waqf Properties Protection Coordination Committees to protect waqf properties and save from encroachments.
