BRICS Summit: 4 CMs Of Opposition-Ruled States Skip Gala Dinner At Bharat Mandapam - Here’s Why

New Delhi: Chief Ministers of the Opposition-ruled states—Keralam, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu—were invited to the BRICS gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, sources told Times Now. However, the CMs of these states sipped the dinner. The CMs of the Congress-ruled states cited prior commitments for skipping the dinner.

The invitations were sent as India hosted the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, which brought together leaders and senior officials from member states and partner countries.

The dinner was attended by Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari, chief ministers from several NDA-ruled states, and union ministers, including Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal, and JP Nadda.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, and World Health Organisation Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus were among the global leaders who attended the dinner.

The dinner was held hours after BRICS leaders unanimously approved the New Delhi Declaration 2026, which advocated reforms to global governance and greater representation for developing nations.

PM Modi said the summit’s outcome underscored a BRICS that has become “wider in reach and stronger in purpose”. The declaration voiced serious concern over rising tensions in West Asia and urged all sides to exercise maximum restraint while avoiding steps that could worsen the crisis.

The declaration emphasised safeguarding civilians and civilian infrastructure, upholding sovereignty and territorial integrity, and pursuing sustained peace, security, and stability through dialogue and diplomatic engagement. It also highlighted the importance of ensuring uninterrupted global trade, resilient supply chains, and the steady movement of energy in line with international law.

On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi held 15 sit-down bilateral meetings with heads of states or heads of governments on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit.

Alongside these 15 bilateral meetings, the Prime Minister also had pull-aside meetings with various world leaders and leaders of international institutions.

India hosted the BRICS Summit on September 12-13, and it was attended by the leaders of the 11 member countries and 10 partner countries of the grouping, besides some international organisations.
