AAP, Goa Forward Party Join Hands to Launch 'Goa First' Front Ahead of 2027 Polls

Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday formally announced a pre-poll alliance between AAP and the Vijai Sardesai-led Goa Forward Party (GFP), branding the new front "Goa First".

The alliance is being pitched as a non-BJP, non-Congress political arrangement ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections. "The people of Goa want a change. Goa First will form the government. We will win on our own," Kejriwal said at the press conference in the presence of GFP president Vijai Sardesai, Delhi's Leader of Opposition and AAP’s Goa desk in-charge Atishi and others. Kejriwal said both parties were equal partners in the alliance.

"This alliance has not closed the door; it is open to the like-minded political forces. Many people have approached us, including leaders from both the parties who are tired of their politics," he said.

Kejriwal accused the two national parties of colluding behind the scenes despite contesting elections against each other, and said Goa's voters have been let down twice before and would not be "cheated" again.

"The Goa Forward Party and the Aam Aadmi Party have come together to form 'Goa First', an alliance to give the people of Goa a real alternative. The people of Goa have been cheated twice. They won’t be cheated a third time. BJP and Congress may fight during elections, but behind closed doors, they come together, make deals and help each other form governments. Goa deserves a real alternative, one that truly puts Goa first," the AAP posted on X.

He said that the ruling BJP would not secure a majority in the upcoming elections and the 'Goa First' alliance would form the next government. He also said that AAP had learnt a lesson after seven of its Rajya Sabha MPs merged with the BJP and would be extra cautious in future about picking candidates.

The GFP is a regional outfit led by former deputy chief minister Sardesai, who is the party's lone MLA in the 40-member state assembly.

The AAP has two MLAs — Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva — representing Benaulim and Velim constituencies respectively in South Goa.

The elections to the Goa Legislative Assembly are due before March 2027.
