District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru inaugurated the skate park in Udhagamandalam on Friday. | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT A dedicated skate park, the first of its kind built by the Tamil Nadu government, was inaugurated by the District Collector, Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, at Buttfire near Udhagamandalam on Friday (September 11, 2026).The skate park has been constructed on a 2-acre plot at a cost of ₹1.85 crore with funds allocated from the Special Area Development Programme. The skate park includes a skating rink measuring 110 meters in length constructed at a cost of ₹49.85 lakh. It also has other skate boarding features, including a bowl, pump track, ramp, kicker rails, ledges, hip ramps built at a cost of ₹1.35 crore. Ms. Tanneeru told the reporters this was the first time the government had created skating infrastructure that required a lot of technical expertise to accomplish. The work was completed by the Public Works Department with expert skate park builders. She said that a total of 30 skateboarders as well as locals were taking part in a three-day long skating competition from September 11 to 13 at the park. The Collector said the facility would benefits skaters in the district who attend national level events.The three-day long event at the skate park is set to have competitions, games, workshops, music and other activities.
