Watch Ramayana song Jai Jai Ram: Lord Ram's glory, Rahman's music and Shreya's magic

Ramayana has unveiled its first song, Jai Jai Ram, composed by A R Rahman and sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal. Composed by AR Rahman, written by Kumar Vishwas and sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal, the song was unveiled on September 14, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.The first song from Ramayana offeris a glimpse into the epic's emotional and devotional world. The song brings several important moments from Lord Ram's life to the screen, from his wedding to Sita to his reunion with Bharat. The song opens with glimpses of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita's wedding, capturing the grandeur and devotion surrounding their union. The visuals then move to their arrival in Ayodhya, where the newlyweds are welcomed with flowers being showered on them.Jai Jai Ram also touches upon some of the more emotional moments from Ram's life. One of the sequences shows him caring for his father, King Dashrath. Another moment shows Ram immersing his father's ashes in the river. The song also features the emotional Bharat Milaap, the reunion between Ram and his younger brother Bharat. Rahman's music gives Jai Jai Ram the feel of both a prayer and a film song. The repeated invocation of Lord Ram's name forms the heart of the track, while Shreya Ghoshal and Arijit Singh bring an emotional quality to the composition.Speaking about the song, filmmaker and producer Namit Malhotra said that the track was intended to capture the emotional and devotional core of Ramayana. “Shri Ram is at the heart of Ramayana and, for generations, has been the guide we turn to through every phase of life. In moments of darkness, we seek his strength. In moments of uncertainty, we look to his path. And in moments of joy, we remember him with gratitude. ‘Jai Jai Ram’ comes from that deeply personal and timeless relationship we share with Shri Ram,” he said. Malhotra added that despite the film being mounted on a large scale, its foundation remains rooted in emotion, values and devotion. He also explained why the makers chose Ganesh Chaturthi to begin the film's musical journey.“Beginning this musical journey on Ganesh Chaturthi felt especially meaningful because, in our culture, every auspicious beginning starts by seeking the blessings of Lord Ganesha,” he said.A R Rahman said the composition was built around the simplicity of chanting Shri Ram's name while retaining the intimacy of a prayer. “At the heart of ‘Jai Jai Ram’ is the simple and powerful repetition of Shri Ram’s name. Musically, the intention was to preserve the purity and intimacy of a prayer while allowing the composition to grow into a cinematic song,” he said.He also praised Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal for bringing their individual emotional expressions to Kumar Vishwas's lyrics while retaining the devotional character of the song.Kumar Vishwas, meanwhile, said he wanted the lyrics to remain simple and direct rather than attempt to define Shri Ram through words. “‘Jai Jai Ram’ are three simple words, yet within them lies a complete prayer. While writing the song, my endeavour was not to describe Shri Ram, because his meaning cannot be contained in words, but to express the relationship every devotee shares with him: as our guide, our strength and our refuge,” he said.The release of Jai Jai Ram comes after the strong global response to the Ramayana trailer, which crossed one billion digital views across platforms within six days, according to the makers.Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Shri Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.The film is produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations.
