Dhoolpet Turns Quiet after Bustling Ganesh Idol Sales

(Photo: PTI)Hyderabad: The dingy lanes of Dhoolpet and its surroundings wore a deserted look on Monday after completing the sale of Ganesh idols for the last 15 days. Several residential welfare and youth associations purchased idols in different hues in Dhoolpet to celebrate the 11-day Ganesh festival on a grand note.

Dhoolpet, Mangalhat and adjoining areas witnessed a hectic activity with local artisans doing a brisk business selling idols with a height ranging from one to 21-feet height in different shapes.

Chaotic scenes witnessed from Friday as buyers thronged the Dhoolpet in large numbers with auto trolleys and vans to carefully transport idols to their pandals in twin cities.

Apart from Hyderabad and parts of Telangana, several festival organizers from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka purchased idols in Dhoolpet and shifted them to their pandals 10 days before the festival.

The main attraction of the idols this time was turban Ganesha. Sri Ganesh Singh Kalakar, Sri Dhruv Singh Kalakar and other artisans especially focused on crafting huge idols with turban to generate buzz among the buyers. The response from the buyers was also overwhelming.

In addition to Dhoolpet, artisans put separate sheds in Jalpally, Ghatkesar, Nagole, Bowenpally, Pedda Amberpet and other areas to sell idols. Special cranes were used to lift idols from the sheds and put them into vehicles.
