During his visit, Xi attended the summit’s main proceedings, the family photo and the outreach session. The key highlight was his 45–50 minute bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where both leaders discussed major challenges in India-China relations. The talks focused on maintaining a long-term strategic perspective, ensuring that differences do not turn into disputes, and improving mutual trust. Border issues, LAC tensions, disengagement, connectivity, visas and the trade imbalance were among the key areas discussed. The meeting was also seen as a possible step toward improving bilateral relations after years of tensions. Both sides emphasised that India and China should see each other as development partners rather than competitors. Strategically, the talks also underline India’s independent foreign policy approach. Both countries stressed greater cooperation within BRICS, stronger Global South representation and increased economic engagement, while avoiding dependence on any single global power.
