Gujarat FDCA inspects 151 hostels, canteens; issues improvement notices to 33
Ahmedabad, Sep 17 (PTI) The Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) on Thursday said it conducted a special inspection drive covering 151 hostels and canteens across the state and issued improvement notices to 33 of them.
The action came after a recent food poisoning incident at a hostel in Surat, following which Health Minister Praful Pansheriya directed the regulator to conduct a special drive to inspect private and government-run hostels and canteens to check food quality and hygiene standards.
“During the statewide special drive on Thursday, a total of 151 hostels/canteens were inspected till 6 pm, including 25 government hostels/canteens, 20 semi-government hostels/canteens and 106 private hostels/canteens. Improvement notices were issued to 33 operators and 23 food samples were collected for testing,” Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration said in a release.
