Australia’s approaching summer fills me with dread. I’m not equipped to battle 40C
When people say they love the heat, I presume they either have air conditioning or are lying
As a cultured citizen of the globe (social media), I am witness to a lot of different opinions about the weather throughout the year. I will soon be sharing my own, as Sydney weather begins to warm, triggering my dread of the hot months to come.
As the cold mornings start to ease, and everyone and their hot mothers start to post from the beach, I see friends overseas shivering in fear at the fast-approaching winter, when they will then shiver from the cold. Anytime and anywhere cold months happen, people post about having Sad. Not having sad, which is what I call my depression, but Sad – seasonal affective disorder.
For some of these people it is a genuine mood disorder, and some are being hyperbolic (in the way that a portion of people who just like their things to be neat claim to have OCD) – but the point is that there is a common language for people who get miserable in winter. There are products that cater to the winter-haters. There are special lamps and alarm clocks that mimic outdoor light (not to mention heaters), and I’m glad people have the support to get through it.
