INTERVIEW | ‘Vastu is all about coexisting with nature, and also common sense’
Building a house of one’s own perhaps defines the biggest dream of an average Malayali. In this endeavour, they would probably never have come across another friend like G Shankar, founder of Habitat Technology Group that propagates sustainable and affordable architecture. Sitting at ‘Siddhartha’, his famous mud house, the people’s architect opens up on his journey, the philosophy behind the “lovable, livable and sustainable’’ buildings he has built across the world, in a chat with TNIE.
It has been a long journey of close to five decades in architecture. How do you look at it?
I would term it the journey of an unfinished symphonist. I was born in Africa and later moved here. I had a lonely childhood. One of the turning points in my life was getting attracted to the Sasthra Sahithya Parishad, which gave me valuable lessons. That experience made me what I am today.
