Data entry operators and technical assistants boycott work in regional transport offices in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: Data entry operators and technical assistants working at the Regional Transport Offices in Coimbatore on Thursday boycotted work and staged a demonstration, urging the state government to provide alternative employment to protect their livelihoods.
According to sources in the transport department, the workers were informed by the Commissionerate of Transport and Road Safety on Wednesday that they are to cease all work from September 12, following the state's announcement that the public would be able to download driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates (RCs) online from September 15.
Following this, staff members from 16 RTOs in the Coimbatore zone boycotted work on Thursday, sources added.
