Zach Cregger is the perfect director to helm Resident Evil: Producers
Resident Evil producers say Zach Cregger has built the film around the games' survival horror and uncertainty. They say his immersive real-time approach aims to make audiences share the protagonist's fear.
What makes Resident Evil frightening has never been limited to its monsters. The games built their horror around uncertainty. Be it the dark corridor that may or may not contain something waiting to attack or the dwindling ammunition, or worse: the wrong weapon at the wrong time and the constant calculation of whether to fight or run. For the new film, filmmaker Zach Cregger is attempting to bring that particular tension to the big screen.
The Barbarian director’s approach to the franchise is rooted in the experience of playing the games, with the film designed around survival, resource management and escalating danger. According to the producers, Cregger’s intention was not simply to borrow the Resident Evil name and mythology, but to recreate the feeling of being trapped inside its world.
