HP: Two pilgrims killed, 11 injured after slipping on snow-covered track in Keylong
Shimla, Sep 17 (PTI) Two pilgrims were killed and 11 others sustained minor injuries on Thursday after slipping on a snow-covered track while performing Parikrama at Drilbu Ri Kora in Lahaul and Spiti district, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Dawa Doma Bhutia, 74, a resident of West Bengal’s Darjeeling, and Yangzin, 64, daughter of Kunu Ram and a resident of Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti, they said.
The district administration has provided immediate relief of Rs 25,000 to the families of each deceased, they said.
According to the officials, the incident took place around 4.30 am when the area experienced sudden snowfall, making the high-altitude track slippery.
The two pilgrims slipped and fell on the snow-covered path, resulting in their deaths, they said.
A team from the district administration and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reached the spot, rescued the injured and recovered the bodies.
