Manipur CM launches 2 cleanliness drives to boost waste-management infrastructure
Imphal, Sep 17 (PTI) Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Thursday launched two cleanliness drives aimed at boosting waste-management infrastructure and undertaking awareness activities.
The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva, 2026’ campaign and the Clean Himalayan Hill Cities Initiative were launched at the CM Secretariat here.
Singh appealed to Manipur residents, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and other stakeholders to actively participate in the campaign.
“Under these initiatives, behavioural change, scientific waste management and community ownership will be promoted under a ‘Whole of Society’ approach to tackle solid waste and sanitation challenges in fragile mountain regions,” the CM said in a post on X.
“The initiatives will also strengthen waste-management infrastructure at identified sites, undertake awareness and behaviour-change activities, and provide training and institutional support for ULBs and relevant sanitation and community stakeholders,” he said.
The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign – from September 17 to October 2 – will promote four-way source segregation, awareness on solid waste management rules, and waste-to-wealth initiatives, officials said.
The 100-day Clean Himalayan Hill Cities Initiative will focus on capacity building, Behaviour Change Communication (BCC), preservation of heritage and iconic sites, and strengthening waste-management practices, they said. PTI CORR RBT
