ED arrests Kolkata man in land grabbing, document forgery case involving properties
The Enforcement Directorate has arrested Kolkata-based Amit Ganguly in a money laundering case tied to land grabbing and forged property documents. The agency said the case also involves manipulated land records, false civil claims and 23 FIRs filed by West Bengal Police.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Kolkata-based Amit Ganguly in a money laundering case linked to alleged land grabbing, forgery of documents and manipulation of land records, officials said.
Ganguly was taken into custody by the ED's Kolkata unit on Tuesday night, September 15, under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
According to the ED, Ganguly allegedly acquired control over properties belonging to different individuals and entities through various unlawful methods.
The agency alleged that he used forged Board Resolutions, fabricated agreements for sale containing forged signatures, fabricated deeds and other documents to gain control over the properties.
The illegal activities also involved manipulation of land records and the institution of civil proceedings based on false or fabricated claims, officials said.
Ganguly is further alleged to have denied the lawful entitlements of landowners and used threats and physical force against people seeking to exercise their legitimate rights over the properties.
The ED said Ganguly faces as many as 23 FIRs registered by the West Bengal Police against him and linked entities.
According to the agency, the multiple cases reflect his repeated involvement in criminal activities and a continued modus operandi of acquiring and dealing with properties through fraudulent and unlawful means.
