Shooting in Baltimore involves multiple victims, say police — ‘Seven shot, taken to hospital’
A mass shooting reportedly took place in Baltimore, Maryland, late Wednesday (September 16).
Seven people were shot, including a three-year-old boy, in Baltimore’s Washington Hill neighborhood on Wednesday night, police and city officials was quoted by the Banner as saying. There's no official on toll so far.
Police said seven victims were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
"There is no way, to those individuals, there is no way for you to reclaim humanity after doing that. But, if you want to try to save yourself and save your soul, turn yourself in," Mayor Brandon Scott said during a news conference.
"Everybody in the Goddamn city should be looking for you," he was quoted wbaltv as saying.
The Baltimore Police Department said in a post on X that the incident took place in the 1400 block of East Fayette Street. They said Fayette and Caroline Streets were blocked off.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley was quoted by local report a three-year-old is among seven victims of a shooting in East Baltimore.
Fayette and Caroline streets remain blocked due to the investigation.
The Paltimore Police said, “The Baltimore Police Department is currently on the scene of a shooting involving multiple victims in the 1400 block of East Fayette Street. Both Fayette and Caroline Streets are blocked off. More information to follow when it becomes available.”
According to preliminary information, Southern district officers responded after 9 pm. Wednesday to the 1400 block of E Fayette Street for reports of gunshots.
Police Commissioner Richard Worley said that all of the victims had non-life-threatening injuries. Police said they were still looking for the suspect or suspects, the Banner reported.
Baltimore Police officers responded shortly after 9 pm to a report of multiple people shot in the 1400 block of East Fayette Street, department spokesperson Vernon Davis said in an email. The shooting occurred just blocks from Johns Hopkins Hospital, the report added.
Worley said there is no ongoing threat to the public, but police presence remains in the area.
"It appears that all the gunfire was shot in one direction," Worley said when asked about a motive. Worley was not able to confirm how many suspects police are looking for, reports added.
Johns Hopkins Hospital, located less than half a mile from the scene, said the it is operating normally.
