Ben Stokes took the opportunity to take a dig at the critics, wondering why they cannot just admire the talents of Harry Brook without berating him.

As Harry Brook unleashed carnage in Southampton, forcing Sri Lankan bowlers to run for cover at the Rose Bowl Stadium, Ben Stokes was gushing over the blistering knock that culminated in England’s white-ball captain finishing unbeaten on 114 off 49 in the first T20I on Tuesday. Brook’s assault propelled England to 254/4, and Sri Lanka crumbled under pressure to be bowled out for 135 in 19 overs.

Stokes was enamoured, so much so that he invoked fellow England great Kevin Pietersen and declared Brook’s is on a different level ‘talent-wise’ and even KP, a genius in his heydays, can’t ‘come close’.
