Keralam CM Satheesan takes dig at CPI(M) over alleged poll defeat blame game
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 16 (PTI) Keralam Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Wednesday took a dig at the CPI(M) over reports that the party’s extended state committee had held state secretary M V Govindan and the electorate responsible for its defeat in the Assembly polls.
“The CPI(M) extended state committee as a whole has apparently put the responsibility for the Assembly poll defeat on poor M V Govindan and on the people who voted, and then walked away,” Satheesan said at his weekly press conference after chairing a Cabinet meeting.
“That is fine. I welcome it because they still have not realised why they lost. That is a good thing. Let them continue like that. We have no problem with it,” the senior Congress leader said.
Satheesan said it was “quite an interesting situation” in which those responsible for the defeat had apparently evaded responsibility by blaming the voters and Govindan. “Fine, let it remain that way,” he said.
His remarks came a day after the CPI(M) announced a major organisational revamp following its poor performance in the Assembly polls.
At the end of a three-day Extended State Committee meeting on Tuesday, Govindan said the party had accepted collective responsibility for the setback and would focus on correcting organisational shortcomings, strengthening its political intervention and ensuring that decisions were implemented on the ground.
“The party will go through a process of correcting mistakes in every respect,” Govindan had said, adding that the state secretary and the state committee had accepted responsibility for the defeat. PTI TGB SSK
