Vijay govt secures Rs 15,300-crore UK investment commitments for Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay returned from London after securing fresh investment commitments and trade engagements worth Rs 15,300 crore. The visit strengthened Tamil Nadu's industrial pipeline while advancing its proposed Motor Sports City.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay returned to Chennai on Thursday after a six-day official visit to London aimed at attracting global investments and speeding up industrial development in the state.
An official release said the visit to the United Kingdom brought in fresh investment commitments worth Rs 15,300 crore and also advanced plans for a Motor Sports City in Tamil Nadu. The agreements signed during the visit are expected to create more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Vijay left for the UK on the night of September 10 and led a state delegation to position Tamil Nadu as a major international destination for advanced manufacturing and technology.
On September 12, Indian High Commissioner to the UK Kumaran Periasamy met the Chief Minister in London to discuss emerging trade opportunities and partnerships under the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement framework.
During the visit, Vijay also inspected the Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit as part of follow-up action on his Rule 110 announcement in the State Assembly on September 3, 2026, on setting up a Motor Sports City in Tamil Nadu. He reviewed the race control systems, track facilities, race museum, and safety and operational arrangements for long-distance racing.
He also flagged off the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup race at Silverstone, which featured actor and racing driver Ajith Kumar.
On September 14, new memorandums of understanding and a letter of intent were formalised in London across sectors including auto components, research and development, renewable energy, power grid equipment, and Global Capability Centres.
State-owned Guidance TN and senior government officials also held high-level meetings with 10 leading organisations from sectors such as aerospace, defence, chemicals, logistics, construction, financial services, retail, and legal services.
The outcomes included sourcing agreements between UK retailers and Tamil Nadu textile manufacturers, a planned visit by a UK aerospace and defence delegation to Hosur, an October visit to Chennai by a delegation from the Northern England Mayoral Space Authority, skill development partnerships in financial services, UK-Tamil Nadu trade workshops, and a joint report to identify trade opportunities under the UK-India CETA.
