Taapsee Pannu reacts to Gandhari’s criticism, highlights film’s top Netflix ranking
Actor Taapsee Pannu responded to criticism of Gandhari by sharing its chart-topping streaming performance on the platform. Her post highlighted the gap between mixed critical reviews and the film's strong audience traction following its release.
Actor Taapsee Pannu has addressed the critical reception surrounding her latest action-thriller, Gandhari, following its release on Netflix India. The actor reshared a post on social media and highlighted the film securing top streaming spot on the platform despite negative reviews, pointing to its high viewership metrics to address the critical backlash surrounding the project.
Pannu wrote, "Not 'everyone' I guess :) When you throw lemons, we make (lemonade emoji)..... Cheers! (sic)", sharing a screenshot of the film holding the number-one position on the national trending chart. The revenge thriller, directed by Devashish Makhija and written by Kanika Dhillon, marks the actor's latest collaboration with Dhillon after Haseen Dillruba (2021) and Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba (2024).
Gandhari is an action-thriller that centres on Bani (Taapsee Pannu), a determined mother pushed to the brink when her young daughter is mysteriously abducted. Refusing to succumb to despair, Bani embarks on a relentless pursuit across a treacherous underworld to track down those responsible. As she digs deeper, she uncovers a deeply entrenched crime ring operating in the shadows, forcing her to rely on her physical resilience and sharp instincts. Balancing high-stakes tension with an emotional core, the film traces a mother's fierce fight against time and overwhelming odds to bring her child home safely.
India Today, in its review of the film, wrote, "In the end, the most compelling thing about Gandhari is the performance trying to rescue it. And that may be its biggest tragedy: the film gives us a mother willing to go to hell for her daughter, but never gives us a story compelling enough to make us want to go there with her."
Gandhari also features actors Ishwak Singh, Jatin Sarna, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht and Chhaya Kadam in key roles.
The film premiered on Netflix on September 3, 2026.
