NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has made elaborate, multi-layered security arrangements for the upcoming BRICS Summit, with around 15,000 police personnel and 200 companies of paramilitary forces to be deployed across the national capital.
According to the police, the security plan has been drawn to provide maximum security to visiting dignitaries while ensuring minimum inconvenience to the public.
Special Commissioner of Police (Security) Manish Kumar Agrawal said the police are working in close coordination with multiple agencies for the summit and detailed surveys of all identified routes have already been conducted.
Massive deployment will be made for law and order, security and traffic management, Agrawal said, adding that security will cover the airport, hotels and other scheduled and unscheduled locations that may be visited by dignitaries.
A multi-layered security system has been put in place with enhanced access control, vigilance and robust security measures at Bharat Mandapam, the main venue of the summit, the Spl. CP said.
Coordination meetings have also been held with neighbouring states to ensure seamless security and facilitate coordination during the movement of dignitaries.
In view of the Summit, police are conducting foot patrolling across the city to review security arrangements, enhance police visibility and interact with citizens. Police personnel moved through busy public spaces and important locations, maintaining close observation of the surroundings and ensuring that any security concern receives timely attention.
The police further stated that the drills have been conducted and the CCTVs cameras are being monitored. Technical equipment has been installed so that any threat can be detected.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Traffic Police said restrictions would be imposed in notified controlled areas and on routes being used for VIP movement, but normal traffic would continue wherever security arrangements permit.
Residents living in controlled areas will be allowed to move subject to security arrangements and have been advised to carry valid identification and address proof and follow instructions from the police personnel deployed there.
Traffic may be temporarily halted or diverted depending on security requirements and the prevailing ground situation, after which vehicles would be released in phases.
The BRICS Summit will see heightened security across key areas of the capital, with Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel deployed at strategic locations to maintain law and order and ensure safe movement of delegates.
