Chandrababu Naidu sets 2029 target for houses to all eligible families in Andhra
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to ensure a permanent home for every eligible family in the state by 2029. He also set a target of completing 5.52 lakh houses by March 2027.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday directed officials to implement the 'Housing for All' programme on a saturation basis, with the aim of providing a permanent house to every eligible family in the state by 2029. He also asked them to complete 5.52 lakh houses by March 2027, according to an official release.
At a review meeting, Naidu told officials to ground all housing projects to be taken up under various schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin and PM Janman, by next month.
The release said, "Naidu directed officials to implement the Housing for All programme on a saturation basis, with the objective of providing a permanent house to every eligible family in the state by 2029."
He asked officials to construct 1.5 lakh houses in urban areas, complete over two lakh houses by December 2026, and finish another 2.74 lakh houses by March 2027 so they are ready for housewarming ceremonies.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that 18.72 lakh houses had been sanctioned in the state under PMAY 1.0, PMAY 2.0 and PM Janman, of which 13.2 lakh have been completed so far.
Officials said that under the Andhra Pradesh Housing Corporation, 11.31 lakh houses have been completed out of a total of 16.11 lakh, while under Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation, 1.88 lakh houses have been completed out of 2.61 lakh.
Naidu directed officials to ensure the sanction of 75,000 new houses by December 2027 and bring another 1.5 lakh houses into the pipeline. He also asked them to coordinate with the Union Ministries of Rural Development and Housing and Urban Affairs to secure the required allocations.
The Chief Minister further directed officials to identify the actual demand among families without housing sites by integrating data from various departments.
He asked them to publish preliminary beneficiary lists at village and ward secretariat level, invite objections, resolve them transparently and then finalise the lists. He also told officials to implement housing construction in Kuppam Assembly constituency on a saturation basis.
Naidu reiterated that providing a safe and permanent house to every eligible family in Andhra Pradesh by 2029 is the government’s objective and asked all departments to work together to meet the 'Housing for All' target.
He also directed the Housing Department to focus on developing industrial townships in different parts of the state with central government support and asked officials to coordinate with the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, saying such townships in industrial areas, including Sri City, would create greater scope for economic activity and transactions.
