Make local body, panchayat polls more transparent, inclusive and tech-driven: Chhattisgarh Governor
Raipur, Sep 16 (PTI) Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka on Wednesday stressed the need to make the election process for local bodies and three-tier panchayats more robust, transparent, inclusive and technology-enabled, and said local self-governing institutions play an important role in strengthening democracy.
Addressing the 32nd All India Conference of State Election Commissioners at Nava Raipur after inaugurating it, Deka said continuous improvement in the election process of local bodies and panchayats and effective use of modern technology are essential, an official statement said.
Stating that local self-governing institutions play a vital role in strengthening democracy, Deka emphasised making the election process for local bodies and three-tier panchayats more robust, transparent, inclusive, and technology-enabled, it said.
He also released the first edition of the Chhattisgarh Local Body Election Year Book-2026 on the occasion. The publication documents the state’s local body election process, achievements, innovations and electoral arrangements, the release said.
Chhattisgarh State Election Commissioner Ajay Singh outlined the objectives of the conference and efforts being made to make local body elections more effective and modern, it said.
The two-day conference is being organised as a platform to strengthen local democracy, promote the integration of modern technology into electoral systems and facilitate the sharing of experiences and innovations among different states, the statement said.
Discussions on the first day covered the growing use of digital technology, innovations in election management, transparency and ways to make local body election processes more convenient and effective, it said.
