PoK Protests: JAAC Calls Traders, Transporters, Students For 4-Day Consultations
JAAC leader Kashmiri alleged the movement had faced a severe crackdown since June 5, claiming several people had been killed, hundreds of youths arrested and others gone missing.
The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) has announced a series of consultations with traders, transporters, private schools, lawyers and students in an effort to widen coordination around its ongoing rights movement in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK). Addressing supporters in Rawalakot, JKJAAC leader Sardar Umar Nazir Kashmiri said the consultations would be held in Dareek from September 17 to 20. The move comes amid continued protests and a tense standoff between the action committee and authorities in the region.
Kashmiri alleged that the movement had faced a severe crackdown since June 5, claiming that several people had been killed, hundreds of youths arrested and others gone missing. He further alleged that some activists had faced torture and were denied medical treatment. These allegations could not be independently verified. Pakistani authorities have previously disputed accounts of the protest movement’s casualties and accused JAAC protesters of violence.
