One of India's most celebrated hotels, the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, has once again received global recognition after it secured the 30th spot in the World's 50 Best Hotels 2026 rankings

Mumbai's iconic Taj Mahal Palace, which has been serving as a luxurious landmark overlooking the Arabian Sea for decades, has recently strengthen its global popularity.

The property has jumped from 38th spot to 30th on the coveted World's 50 Best Hotels 2026 rankings list, reinstating focus on its top-notch hospitality and how it easily qualifies as one of India's most celebrated marvels.

Standing alongside the world's most notable properties

Like every year, the World's 50 Best Hotels list showcases a highly competitive global hospitality scene.

At the very top, Rosewood Hong Kong retained the No. 1 position, followed by Capella Bangkok and Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River, reinforcing Asia’s dominance in luxury travel rankings.

It is India's only entry in this year's rankings

When it comes to luxury stays, India isn't in a dearth of hotels. Yet, despite the country's growing luxury travel sector, the Mumbai landmark remains the only Indian hotel featured in the top 50 global rankings this year.

The list, compiled by an international academy of travel and hospitality experts, reflects a mix of design, service, guest experience and cultural relevance across continents.

The property's design boasts a beautiful combination of Indian, Moorish, Oriental and Renaissance influences.

It features intricate latticework, marble-floored lobbies, onyx-columned corridors and grand staircases with wrought-iron balustrades.A long archival corridor within the property functions like a museum, documenting the hotel’s own storied past.

Its 285 rooms and suites in the Heritage Wing feature hand-knotted carpets, silk drapes, four-poster beds and crystal chandeliers, while the more contemporary Tower Wing offers a modern aesthetic with muted tones and floor-to-ceiling windows.

A stay typically begins at around Rs 25,000 per night, though rates vary depending on dates and demand.

Serving as the go-to choice for top diplomats, politicians, sportsmen, and celebrities around the world, the hotel, very recently, also hosted the cast of Odyssey, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, director Christopher Nolan and producer Emma Thomas, who visited Mumbai for a special global fan screening.
