Video: Lucknow man hits girlfriend with car after fight, drags her on bonnet; arrested

A viral video shows a Lucknow man hitting his girlfriend with a car, dragging her on the bonnet and then running her over. The incident occurred after the woman saw the accused with another woman and confronted him for hiding his identity.
A woman was hit by a car, dragged on its bonnet and then run over by her boyfriend after an argument in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow on Wednesday. The accused, Shahnawaz, has now been arrested, police said.
The woman, identified as Anamika, had confronted Shahnawaz after allegedly seeing him with another woman and learning that he had concealed his identity from her.
A video of the incident shows Anamika on the bonnet as the car driven by Shahnawaz moves forward. She is then seen falling off the side of the vehicle, after which the car moves towards her again and runs her over.
The woman suffered injuries in the incident before the car sped away.
“Do whatever you want to... Stop the car,” Anamika is heard saying in the video before she is run over.
According to the preliminary investigation, Anamika and Shahnawaz had known each other for some time. Anamika alleged that she was in a relationship with him while he had introduced himself to her as 'Yash Thakur'.
Police said Anamika spotted Shahnawaz with another woman at a tea stall near a park on Wednesday morning. An argument followed, and when she tried to stop him from leaving in the car, he allegedly accelerated and hit her.
The video appears to capture the moments that followed, with Anamika on the bonnet as the car moves forward. She falls from the vehicle before the car turns towards her and runs her over.
Anamika is undergoing treatment at a hospital and has filed a written complaint against Shahnawaz, police said.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident as well as Anamika's allegation that Shahnawaz concealed his identity while they were in a relationship.
The arrest comes as police continue to establish the sequence of events leading up to the alleged attack.
The Lucknow incident comes days after a similar hit-and-run in Gurugram, where a woman biker was allegedly rammed by a speeding car, knocking her off the motorcycle and sending her skidding down the road.
The accused, 33-year-old Kalyan Bainsla, and his cousin Lavneesh, 34, who was travelling with him in the car, were later arrested in Rajasthan.
