Jharkhand: Main shooter in businessman murder injured in encounter, 3 others nabbed
Dhanbad (Jharkhand), Sep 17 (PTI) The main shooter in the murder of a Jamshedpur-based businessman has been injured in an encounter with Jharkhand Police in Dhanbad, a senior officer said on Thursday.
Sagar Singh alias Shibu, a native of Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, was the main shooter in the Nikhar Sablok murder case. He, along with his associates, had been hiding in an apartment in Hathbari More in Nirsa police station area for the last few days, Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar told PTI.
“After verifying the information of his hiding in the apartment, a police team cordoned off the complex and launched a raid on Wednesday. Realising that he had been cornered, Sagar opened fire on the police personnel and, in retaliatory fire, sustained a gunshot wound on his foot,” the SSP added.
He has been admitted to the Shahid Nirmal Mahato Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH) for treatment under tight police surveillance.
Police also arrested three associates of Sagar Singh, and seized firearms from the apartment. A manhunt has been launched for another aide who managed to escape from the spot.
Sagar Singh was also involved in the 2017 murder of former deputy mayor of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation, Neeraj Singh, the SSP said.
Police have arrested nine people, including a traffic sergeant and a civic volunteer from West Bengal, in connection with realtor and hotelier Sablok’s murder. He was shot dead at a restaurant in Kanderbeda in Chandil police station area in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on August 24 when he was meeting some people to discuss a land deal. PTI ANB ACD
