Mizoram to host Anthurium festival from October 1 to 3
Aizawl, Sep 16 (PTI) Mizoram will host Anthurium Festival from October 1 to 3 to attract tourists and promote the state’s tourism potential, officials said on Wednesday.
The three-day event will be held at Reiek and Ailawng in Mamit district about 13 km from Aizawl.
Mizoram Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar on Wednesday chaired a meeting here to review the preparations.
Hmar said that tourism in Mizoram has been growing significantly and the growing number of visitors to the state was generating economic activity benefiting shopkeepers, taxi drivers, tea-shop owners and others.
Citing that the upcoming festival is the initiative of the state government, the minister called for collective efforts from all departments, local communities and people to ensure that the event attracts many tourists and is held successfully.
According to officials, the festival will feature a range of cultural, recreational and adventure activities, including trekking, cave exploration at Khuangchera Puk, Thawngpawnga Puk and Ngaitei Puk, shooting competitions, traditional Mizo games, children’s activities and visits to flower gardens, among others.
Popular Mizo artists will perform at Leikapui Night, while a grand concert is planned for the closing ceremony, they said.
The meeting, attended by government officials, Young Mizo Association (YMA) representatives, community leaders from Reiek and Ailawng, the Zo Anthurium Grower Society, event managers and the Mizo Indigenous Games organising team, also reviewed traffic and transportation arrangements.
The meeting proposed to issue a travel advisory for festival visitors and regular travellers using the Reiek route, with the objective of minimising inconvenience and ensuring smooth traffic movement during the festival. PTI CORR RG
