Eligible Bengal women to be covered under Annapurna Yojana, get Rs 3,000 aid: PM
Addressing Annapurna Divas by video link, Narendra Modi said eligible women in Bengal are receiving direct monthly aid of Rs 3,000 under the Annapurna Yojana. He said the scheme cuts out middlemen while strengthening women's confidence and decision-making.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the West Bengal government aims to ensure that not a single eligible woman is deprived of the benefits of the Annapurna Yojana and is working relentlessly towards that goal.
Addressing an 'Annapurna Divas' event organised by the West Bengal government through video link, he said solving every problem linked to the life cycle of mothers, sisters and daughters has been a priority of the BJP government.
PM Modi said that under the scheme, women in Bengal receive a fixed amount directly in their bank accounts every month, and do not have to depend on anyone for it. He said the fourth instalment of the Annapurna Yojana was being transferred to around 1.5 crore women, providing Rs 3,000 per month.
"Within a few days of forming our government in Bengal, work began on the Annapurna Yojana. Today, many women receive financial assistance directly into their bank accounts. There are no middlemen and no 'cut money'. Our government aims to ensure that not a single eligible woman is deprived of the benefits of Annapurna Yojana. We are working relentlessly towards achieving this goal," PM Modi said.
He added that work was also being done rapidly for this purpose.
The Prime Minister said the scheme was a significant support for women and added, "We believe that the women of Bengal should have both the power to make decisions and the courage to move forward."
He also said the Annapurna scheme had added a new sense of empowerment for the mothers and sisters of Bengal.
"I congratulate every mother and sister who will benefit from this scheme and extend my best wishes to them. In a family, many responsibilities rest on the shoulders of our mothers and sisters. Amid numerous small and big decisions, a woman takes care of the family in every way, and when the worry of essential expenses is reduced for them, their confidence grows even more," PM Modi said.
He added that the Annapurna scheme was an important effort to strengthen the confidence of Bengal's women.
PM Modi said the scheme was meant to ensure direct financial support for eligible women in Bengal, while also strengthening their confidence and decision-making power.
