Cauvery row: In plea to CWMA, Karnataka wants quantum of release to Tamil Nadu reduced
Karnataka has urged the Cauvery Water Management Authority to cut Tamil Nadu’s mandated daily water release from 6,000 to 3,000 cusec, citing severe reservoir shortfalls and rising irrigation needs. The plea comes as both states clash over water-sharing amid monsoon uncertainties and El Niño concerns.
By contrast, Karnataka said its own irrigation and drinking water needs come to 144 tmcft (including Bengaluru’s requirement), plus 10 tmcft for environmental flows between February and May, amounting to a total of 154 tmcft.
