A Russian businessman with ties to the Kremlin paid hundreds of thousands of dollars towards Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding after-party in the Bahamas earlier this year, raising questions over the ethics and optics of a foreign-linked figure providing an expensive personal gift to the US President’s son.
The businessman, Umar Kremlev, is the president of the International Boxing Association (IBA) and has links to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Umar Kremlev reportedly paid for the rental of a private island and a fireworks display for celebrations held after Trump Jr.’s wedding to Bettina Anderson. Trump Jr. and his wife have acknowledged receiving the gifts but have stressed that Umar Kremlev did not pay for their wedding itself.
