The crackdown was not limited to Mumbai restaurants. The FDA also took action against several establishments selling milk and milk-based products outside Mumbai.
Mumbai’s iconic Cafe Mondegar and three other food establishments have had their licences suspended by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after inspections found serious food safety and hygiene violations.
The action was announced by the FDA on Tuesday as part of inspections being carried out across Mumbai ahead of the festive season. The crackdown, led by the agency’s new commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, has focused on food safety, hygiene and adulteration violations.
